Glenrothes 0-2 St Andrews United

Following a three week lay due to inclement weather our opponents today were local rivals St. Andrews in the second round of the League cup. Glens were missing four regulars from there line up Kinnes, McLeod-Kay, Macaulay, and c. Schiavone. of the two new signings skinner started and Walton was on the bench. Glens were looking for a little bit of revenge after a heavy defeat earlier on in the season from today's opponents.

FIRST HALF
Within thirty seconds of the kick-off Glens could have taken the lead when a chance fell to Schiavone only to see his effort slip past the post. A cross from Penman had A. McDonald clearing the ball for a corner. from a free kick Wortley had to look sharp and save to stop a possible tap in, at the other end Shaw had to look sharp to save from Denton. A long up field kick from A. McDonald had McInnes under pressure. A cross come shot from Fital landed on the top of the net. On twenty minutes Wilson had an excellent chance to open the scoring but a last-ditch tackle from A. McDonald saved the day. Doig was booked for a cynical tackle on Andrew and on another day the card might have been a different colour. The game was now becoming a little bit physical with the official having to make a few bookings. On the half hour a long throw in was met with the head of A. McDonald but scraped the top of the crossbar, a pass back from O. Fleming was a little bit short and had Shaw rushing from his goal just in time to stop Russell to the ball. A shot from Schiavone just slipped past, a fine run from Andrew was stopped by a fine tackle from Doig. Glens conceded a free kick and from the resultant kick M. Fleming headed over. Glens created a couple of half chances before the break but nothing came of them. The glens created the better of the chances in the first half, but a draw was probably a fair reflection of the game.

SECOND HALF
No changes from either team at half time. Once again, some niggly fouls had crept into the game with the official trying to keep control. Russell made an excellent break but a fine tackle from Fital stopped his progress. On fifty minutes a free kick was met by the head of A. McDonald but just missed the goal, an effort from Andrew was deflected for a corner kick. The away defence got themselves into a bit of a mix up but nobody could take advantage another long ball from A. McDonald had Shaw just beating Andrew to the loose ball. Glens conceded another free kick from which Wilson headed over. On sixty-three minutes the away side took the lead when from another free kick Fleming headed home. Walton then replaced Denton. Wortley had to look sharp to save from Penman. Glens made another substitution Calderwood for Russell, then a twenty-five-yard shot from Skinner struck the crossbar and was cleared for a corner. Glens were now hunting for the equaliser and A. McDonald just missed the goal with a header, a header from Calderwood was cleared off the line. On seventy-six minutes the away side went further ahead when Doig rose above everyone to head home a cross ball. Glens then made their final substitution Martin for skinner. From a long throw in Smart headed over, Wortley made a fine save from M. Fleming. Glens won a free kick in the final minute but the effort from Grierson was just too strong.

Not a lot between the teams with Glens being the little bit more dominant but St. Andrews took their chances when they came. Glens travel to the borders next week to play Coldstream. There is a bus going to the game anyone interested contact any committee member, bus leaves Warout around 11am.

Managers Report:
Kev and I are disappointed as we thought we dominated possession most of the game but didn’t really have that killer instinct. Ross never really had much to do all day in the goal either. We started the game really well in the first 30 seconds with a great move down the left, great cross from Rusty to find Lea Shiv on his own in the box but his shot went wide that could have changed the game. We huffed and puffed the rest of the game without really having any clear cut chances. Disappointing the way we lost our goals we need to stop giving silly goals away as today it has come back to bite us. But credit to Andy and St Andrews they scored their goals and are in the next round and we aren’t. We will now move our focus onto the league where next week we have a tough game away to Coldstream where we will be looking for a reaction from the boys..

Peebles Rovers 0-1 Glenrothes
Saturday 8th February
1st Division Inter Conference

The Glens travelled to the borders for their league fixture against Peebles Rovers, this was a first for both teams, as they had never played each other before. The Glens were without McLeod-Kay who was suspended and was replaced by Russell.

The game kicked off in very poor weather conditions. With heavy rain and a strong wind blowing down the park and also a very heavy park. The Glens looked to take the game to their opponents at the start of the game. A fine run and cross from Kiness, was saved by Kerr. On four minutes an effort from Lindsay was pushed over the bar by Wortley. The Glens won a free kick twenty-yards from goal from which Andrew headed wide. A long range effort with the wind behind him. Brown tried his luck but the ball sailed over the bar. The Glens won the first corner of the game, which found the head of Smart only to see it cleared by a desperate defence. Wortley had to look smart to save from Mullens. On twenty minutes Andrew broke clear and found L. Schiavonie who should have opened the scoring but he sliced the ball over the bar. The Glens were now dominating the game and a shot from Andrew flew over the bar. On twenty-five minutes L. Schiavonie was brought down inside the penalty box, the official had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. With the usual penalty taker suspended Andrew was given the responsibility. His kick was well taken but Kerr made a fine save. A free kick from Macaulay was punched clear by Kerr. A header from Watt was pulled out of the air by Kerr. The Glens kept creating chance after chance but somehow the score stayed blank. The home side were becoming very physical and their yellow card count was mounting. On forty minutes another excellent run and cross from Kinnes found Russell but the effort went wide. Another clinical foul from the side halted Andrew on his progress to goal. As the teams trooped off for their break, The Glens must have been wondering how it was still goalless.

Second half
The first chance of the second half fell to Russell but effort just wide. Kinnes again broke clear and earned a corner kick from the resultant kick, Smart had a header cleared for another corner, from which the same player headed over. A free kick from Macaulay struck the outside of the post. It was the same pattern as the first-half, The Glens creating most of the chances but still looking for the break through. Andrew tried his luck from long range but the effort well over. On the hour mark a second penalty was awarded, when Andrew was brought down. L. Schiavonie took the ball and slotted it past Kerr. This was nothing more than The Glens deserved and it cheered up the big travelling support! Wortley who had been a complete stranger in the second half eventually had to make a save from Mullens. The home side’s intentions had not changed from the first half, with them spoiling at every opportunity. A cross from Macaulay hit the top of net. The home goalkeeper had made a few fine saves during the game and he made another from L. Schiavonie at close range. Once again he came to the rescue saving from Russell. Although the scoreline only shows a 1-0 victory, this was a more comfortable result than it suggests.

Glens made one change from last week’s winning team L. Schiavone replacing Russell.

First half
The game kicked off on a very heavy pitch. Glens created the first chance of the game when Cunningham made an excellent tackle to prevent L. Schiavone having a shot on goal. On five minutes a long ball from Macaulay had Cornet racing from his goal to kick clear. McGarry overhit the ball when in a good position, Wortley had to look lively to save an effort from McNeil. Andrew broke clear but again Cornet raced off his line to stop the danger, an excellent through ball from McLeod-Kay was well defended. on fifteen minutes a mistake in the Glens defence allowed Hutchison a run in on goal only to see his effort strike the bottom of the post. A long range shot from Simpson hit the top of the crossbar, Jack then broke clear but his effort was cleared off the goal line. The away side were putting on a lot of pressure but the Glens defence were standing firm. On thirty-two minutes an effort from McLeod-Kay was cleared for a corner kick, from the kick Smart headed home at the far post. A minute later Glens scored a second when an excellent run and cross from Kinnes found Andrew who shot into the net. The game had now burst into life and a shot from Hamill was well defended by the home defence, at the other end Andrew broke clear only to see his effort go over the crossbar. Glens were now hungry for a third goal and a shot from Watt was pushed clear by Cornet, Denton then tried his luck from twenty-two yards which Cornet spilled but there was no one on hand to seize onto the loose ball. The last chance of the half fell to Andrew but his effort was saved. a very exciting first half with not much between the teams but Glens took their chances and came to lead at the interval.

Second half
The away side made a change at the start of the half Johnstone replacing Ross King. In the first minute Hutchison found himself in a good position but had just strayed offside. a long-range effort from Andrew looked goal bound but cornet made a fine save. An effort from Denton was cleared off the line. On fifty-three minutes Wortley made two fine saves within a matter of twenty seconds. Two minutes later Glens increased their lead when another corner kick found the head of Smart who headed into the corner of the net. Kinnes got himself injured in a fifty-fifty tackle but was able to resume after treatment. On the hour mark C. Schiavone replaced Denton, a superb tackle from Smart saved what could have been a dangerous situation. Kinnes had to leave the park limping to be replaced by Grierson. on sixty-two minutes the away side got a lifeline when a corner kick found the head of Cunningham, this appeared to uplift the away side and they were pressing hard for another goal. That goal came on seventy-three minutes when a defensive mistake allowed substitute Congalton to score. S. McDonald then replaced Grierson. Glens conceded a foul on the eighteen-yard line which Hutchison curled round the post. Glens were conceding a lot of petty fouls in dangerous areas but none of them came to nothing, a minute McLeod-Kay was shown a second yellow card. The away side had a great chance to equalise in injury time when Hamill hit the side netting from four yards. In the end an excellent result against a very good Haddington side.

It was now all hands to the pump to try and retrieve the equaliser which never came. A bad day at the office but at the end of the day it is goals that win matches and hopefully after a hard week training they can get back into winning ways when they travel to Dalkeith next Saturday.

First half
The Shipyard started the game very much on the front foot and inside ninety seconds won two corner kicks which both were cleared. for the first ten minutes glens were pinned back in their own half without the shipyard causing any danger to Wortley. In Glens first attack a run and cross from Kinnes was slightly overhit. On twelve minutes wortley made an excellent save from a twenty yard effort from Strang. from an in-swinging corner Wortley did well to punch the ball clear. On sixteen minutes Anthony broke clear but again Wortley saved the day this time with his feet. On twenty-two minutes an effort from Anthony was cleared off the line by A. McDonald. The Glens were struggling to get a foothold in the game, Glens were conceding a fair number of corner kicks however the Shipyard could not take advantage. A curling shot from brown was saved by Wortley, a cross from L. Schiavone caused a little bit of panic in the Shipyard defence but was eventually cleared. a shot from O’Donnell was saved at the second attempt by wortley. On thirty-eight minutes glens were awarded a penalty kick for a foul against Millar. McLeod Kay stepped up to shoot home. a decent effort from s. McDonald was just too high, the Shipyard were awarded a free kick twenty yards from goal which they rather wasted. The Glens were lucky to be going in at half time a goal to the good as they had been second best most of the half.

Second half
No changes from either team at the start of the half, a minute into the half the Shipyard equalised when Wortley tried to dribble the ball out of his penalty box and lost it to Lennie who shot into the empty net. Two minutes later Glens regained the lead with a bizarre goal, Ross attempted a pass back to keeper Gibb and the ball rolled under the keeper’s legs into the net. Glens conceded a foul twenty yards from goal which flew past the post. Denton replaced Duff. Glens were now coming more and more into the game and a run and cross from Kinnes was plucked out of the air by Gibb, Russell then replaced Grierson. On sixty-five minutes Glens scored number three when Andrew won the ball sixteen yards from goal and showed a lot of composure before rounding Gibb and shooting home. A free kick from L. Schiavone was punched clear by Gibb, the game had now turned on its head with The Glens pressing at every opportunity. On seventy-five minutes Glens went further ahead when a run and cross from Kinnes allowed Andrew to score his second. On eighty minutes Calderwood replaced the limping McLeod-Kay, with his first touch Calderwood broke clear only to be pulled up for offside when he was clearly onside. In the final minute another pass back eluded Gibb but before it crossed the line he kicked it for a corner, from the corner Calderwood rose above everyone to head home number five.

In the end a comfortable victory which did not look like coming after a very poor first half performance. A two-goal debut for Owen Andrew and a very welcome three points and it is onwards to Oakley next Saturday for another league fixture kick off 2pm.

Managers report:
After last weeks disappointing result it was important to get back into another game. We made a few changes to the starting team today with our new loan signing Owen in from the start Duffy and Blair were all in. We didn’t start the first half well our passing was off and we weren’t closing the shippy down with any real pressure shippy had numerous free kicks and corners which they didn’t get anything from and our goalie Ross kept us in it with a great save. Fionn then scored a penalty after big Andy got brought down in the box just before halftime. Losing a goal at the start of the second half was disappointing but after that we were much better we didn’t give the shippy anytime on the ball and we countered and moved the ball much quicker delighted for Owen getting 2 goals should of had 3 and Paddy getting the last goal I’ve said it before we need to kick on and be more consistent and get on a run till the end of the season now.

Saturday 14th December
1st Division Inter Conference

Glens travelled to Denny for the second time this season to play high flying dunipace who have only lost one game in their last nine.

FIRST HALF
The game kicked off in miserable conditions but with it being an artificial pitch there was no danger of the game being abandoned. In the first minute Glens conceded a foul twenty-five yards from goal from which Wortley tipped over the crossbar. The home side had started on the front foot and on three minutes a long range shot from Davidson was cleared for a corner, on seven minutes a long ball from A. McDonald had Russell just staying offside. From another long ball the ball was too strong for Russell who was bearing in on goal, an excellent tackle from Davidson stopped Russell from opening the scoring. On seventeen minutes the home side thought they had taken the lead through Stevenson only to be ruled for offside. Russell was getting in behind the defence on numerous occasions and Kane had to look sharp to save from one of them. Glens conceded a foul twenty yards from goal which was met by the head of McMahon, but Wortley saved the header. From a corner kick A. McDonald had to look sharp to head clear. Glens were conceding too many fouls in dangerous areas but the defence were defending stoutly. Russell broke clear but once again a fine tackle from Davidson saved the day, a minute later the same player had a chance to open the scoring but his effort went soaring over the bar. A
At the other end Wortley had to look sharp to save a header from Zok, a corner from L. Schiavone was cleared off the line. The game was end to end and credit to both teams as the conditions were atrocious. King found himself in an excellent position but had just strayed offside. On forty-three minutes Wortley made a fine save from Zok right on half time from a free kick McHaffie shot wide. A goalless draw at half time was a fair result with both teams glad to get inside for a wee bit respite from the weather.

SECOND HALF
The first chance of the second half came the way of the home side through Craig but Wortley pushed his effort round the post. a fine and cross from Kinnes was scrambled clear by the home defence. On fifty minutes Lane replaced the limping King, a minute later Glens took the lead when a run from McLeod-kay and with an excellent final pass found Kinnes twelve yards from goal who hammered the ball into the net. A fine run from the same player found Russell in an excellent position to score only to blast his effort over, at the other end Wortley had to look sharp twice inside a minute firstly saving from O’Grady and secondly from Craig. Another fine run and cross from Kinnes eluded everyone, an effort from Nash was just too high, a corner from the left was cleared off the line by Kinnes. After a long-term injury Calderwood replaced Russell, from a free kick a header from O’Grady just over then Stevenson seen an effort slip past the post. Following that a fine move which Calderwood just strayed offside. The home side were going looking for the equaliser and A. McDonald had to look sharp to save a dangerous situation, a header from Zok hit the top of the crossbar. On seventy-eight minutes Glens were awarded a penalty kick when a superb through ball from Denton found Calderwood bearing in on goal only to be pulled down. McLeod-kay made no mistake from the spot kick. Three minutes later the same player made an excellent run only to be halted by a fine tackle from McHaffie, another fine run from Kinnes was spoiled by a poor final ball. In the end an excellent result with everyone playing their part in the conditions.

Man of the match had a lot of contenders today with the defence excellent so after a little of consideration - S. MCDONALD

 Managers Report:
We took a while to get into the game yesterday first 30 minutes there were a lot of forced passes and we got let of the hook a couple times. We finished the first half a little bit better but still weren’t where we needed to be. We change it at half time to try stop them playing and for us to get on the ball more, scored a great goal from a bit of quality from Fionn to then play in Callum who took his finish well. The goal seemed to give us that lift that we were looking for and our confidence grew. Charlie opened up their defence with a direct pass to Paddy who did well to get his body in front of the defender to win the penalty. 2-0 we shut up shop and weathered the storm for the last 5 minutes and defended well to see the game out with some good saves from Ross. Overall we are proud of the teams performance today gives us that confidence going into a couple of derbies over the festive period.

Glenrothes 5-2 Craigroyston
Saturday 7th December
1st Division Inter Conference

Glens new signing Lewis Grierson from Kennoway star hearts made his debut in today’s game.

1ST HALF
The away side won a corner kick in the first minute which was cleared by the defence. Glens then won a free kick twenty-five yards from goal from which Smart headed over. On eight minutes an effort from Watt was just wide of the target. Two minutes later a long cross field ball from Smart was just a little bit too strong for the on-rushing L. Schiavone. On twelve minutes’ Glens took the lead when a cross from Schiavone was finished off with an excellent header from Russell, the same player nearly scored a second a couple of minutes later when a cross from Denton just eluded him. Although playing some good football Glens were finding it hard to break down nine men behind the ball, an effort from King following a fine run was not far off the target. Russell then broke clear only to be fouled by a cynical tackle which the official ignored, an excellent cross from Denton was pulled out of the air by Stewart. In one of the away sides rare attacks Glens conceded a foul twenty yards from goal which was comfortably saved by trialist keeper. On twenty-five minutes an effort from Denton slipped past the post, another excellent cross field pass from smart had L. Schiavone straying offside. From a corner kick Duff shot wide. It was one way traffic with the away side having an occasional break away, an effort from Denton was touched onto the crossbar by Stewart and out for a corner. Andrew tried his luck for the away side but his effort was well over, the away side were now having their best spell of the game and only a superb tackle from McDonald saved a dangerous situation. A minute before half time the game was level when following a corner kick South rose above everybody to head home.

2ND HALF
The first chance of the second half went the way of the away side when South broke clear and found Watson with a fine pass the winger should have done better with the goal at his mercy but somehow shot wide. Glens reaction was to replace Duff with Kinnes, after putting the Glens under a little bit of pressure without creating any clear chances they went a goal behind on the fifty third minute when a cross from Kinnes found Russell fifteen yards from goal to shoot past Stewart. A minute later a shot from Denton flew over the bar, two minutes later Glens scored their third and a hat trick for Russell. It was turning into the same pattern as the first half with the Glens very much on top, Stewart was keeping his side in the game with a string of fine saves. On the hour mark Martin replaced McLeod-Kay, his first contribution was to bring another fine save from Stewart. For the next fifteen minutes it was just constant pressure with chance upon chance slipping past. On seventy-five minutes a golden opportunity fell to Watson to allow his team back into the game but with an open goal he shot wide. On eighty minutes a tangle inside the penalty box had the official pointing to the spot to the amazement of the Glens defenders, South made no mistake with the spot kick. Two minutes later Glens regained their two-goal advantage when King scored following a fine move. A run and cross from Kinnes was cleared off the line. On eighty-six minutes’ Glens scored number five when an effort from Russell struck the crossbar and fell kindly for King to tap home.

In the end a convincing win which could have been by a lot more if Stewart had not been in such fine form.

Glens: Trialist, Grierson, Smart, Watt, S. McDonald, King, L. Schiavone, Denton, Russell, McLeod-kay, Duff
Subs: Kinnes, Miller, Hynd, Lane, Lamont, Martin

Craigroyston: Stewart, Vierra, Andrew, Anderson, Nicholson, Doig, Jack, Gray, South, Lacey, Watson
Subs: Sherrin

Managers Report:
We got there in the end sums up our display today, we were the dominant team from start to finish but in the 1st half we were really slow moving the ball at times Craigroyston just got men behind the ball made it difficult for us to create chances. Our first goal was a great move down the right with a great cross and an even better header by Rusty for the goal but for whatever reason we couldn’t repeat those moves and continued to have half chances without really testing the goalie. Craigroystons goal came on half time from a corner and we were glad to get the boys in at half time, a few stern words with a few words of encouragement were needed. Credit to the boys in the 2nd half they came out and moved the ball much quicker, Callum came on gave us good width and we got the second then Rusty got his hattrick, we are really pleased for him. Johno came on and that allowed us to mix it up they got a lifeline when they got a penalty but the boys kept going and wee Kingy got 2 goals, pleased for the wee man we’ve missed his energy and ability to tackle anything above the grass. We need to keep pushing and keep the pressure on we keep saying to the boys we just need to get a good level of consistency.

Onto next week where we are away to Dunipace which will be a hard game which we will spend the week preparing for.

Managers Report:
Our performance today was short of where we want to be especially from the standards we have set from the last two games. We really never got going and it was a scrappy start, I need to take responsibility for missing the penalty at nil nil that might have got us going. As the game went on we were second to balls all over the park and didn’t win enough individual battles. Our team have ability in abundance, but we also need to realise we need to do the ugly part of the game too. Going to places where your not going to get it your own way we need to roll the sleeves up show more grit and determination and win our battles. It’s was a bad day all round we will dust ourselves down and go again next week against Ormiston at home.

Edinburgh United 1-3 Glenrothes
Saturday 16th November
1st Division Conference B

For the second time this season The Glens travelled to Paties Road for the game against Edinburgh United looking for revenge from the defeat in a cup tie earlier in the season.

Glens gave a debut to goalkeeper Ross Wortley on loan from Rosyth JFC.

First half
The game started at a frantic pace with the home side breaking with pace down the left wing but a timely tackle from Smart avoided any danger, on three minutes a shot from Kinnes was cleared off the line. Another minute later an effort from McLeod-Kay was tipped over the crossbar by Tufall. On six minutes Glens took the lead when an excellent run from L. Schiavone left a couple of defenders stranded and his pass found McLeod-Kay who made no mistake from ten yards. The Glens were moving the ball from side to side and causing the home defence all sorts of problems. inside a couple of minutes they could have increased their lead firstly Tufall made a fine save from a shot by C. Schiavone and then a header from S. McDonald was cleared off the line. On eighteen minutes a cross from C. Schiavone went straight across the face of the goal with no one on hand to take a gamble, a long range shot from McLeod-Kay was saved by Tufall, a minute later the keeper again came to the rescue when he pushed an effort from Martin round the post. On twenty three minutes the home side had there first effort on goal through Maughan which was wide of the goal. Glens conceded a foul twenty yards fron goal which was well defended. The home defence through the pressure they were under were conceding a number ot corner kicks and on twenty nine minutes from a corner the ball landed at the feet of A. McDonald who blasted the ball into the net. A minute later a shot from C. Schiavone struck the top of the crossbar, it was relentless pressure from The Glens and an excellent cross from Kinnes was just missed by Martin. The same player had a header saved by Tufall. An excellent first half from The Glens probably one of their best of the season with the icing on the cake of two excellent goals.

Second half.
Two minutes after the restart Martin beat the offside trap but once again Tufall came to the rescue for his team, a minute later Wortley looked as if he had received a bad head knock after colliding with Flynn and after some lengthy treatment he was able to continue. The game was taking the same pattern as the first half with The Glens winning a fair number of corner kicks. The home side were now starting to push a little bit more forward than they had in the first half. An excellcent tackle from Kinnes inside the eighteen yard box saved what could have been a dangerous situation. The same player at the other end had an effort saved by Tufall. On the hour mark for the only time in the game The Glens defence looked a little bit sloppy and allowed Scott room to shoot past Wortley. Two minutes later Glens could have regained there two goal advantage when a cross from the left was missed by Lane, an effort from McLeod-Kay struck the outside of the post, an excellent move down the left hand side was halted by a timely tackle from Robertson, a header from C. Schiavone was just over the bar. Russell then replaced Martin then a shot from Denton brought another fine save from Tuffall. The keeper again had to look sharp to save from Russell. McLeod-Kay came close with an effort just shaving the post. Lamont replaced C. Schiavone. On eighty three minutes Glens were awarded a penalty kick when McLeod-Kay was tripped inside the box, the same player got up and dusted himself down and slotted the ball home. Another effort from McLeod-Kay scraped the top of the crossbar, this was to be his last touch of the game to be replaced for the final minutes by Hynd.

Overall an excellent performance and a well earned three points. It was hard to pick a fault with any of the players but the Willie Drew Man of the Match for today’s game was Andy McDonald.

Glenrothes 2-1 Leith Athletic
Saturday 2nd November
1st Division Inter Conference

After last weeks poor result against St. Andrews the new management team of Kevin Smith and ‪John Martin‬ were looking for a big response from the players against todays opponents Leith Athletic who are top of Conference A.

First half
After all the heavy rain the pitch was very heavy but very much playable thanks to the hard working committee members and especially Rob Wilson. The new management team made a few changes to the line up from last week. Glens won the first free kick of the game inside two minutes twenty yards from goal from which the effort from Martin struck the defensive wall, a minute later Duff broke down the wing only for his cross to hit a defender. On five minutes The Glens conceded a foul on the eighteen yard line which the trialist keeper saved, two minutes later inside a thirty second spell Glens missed two chances to take the lead firstly through Martin and secondly a header from C. Schiavone. Then a minute later an excellent cross from L. Schiavone across the face of the goal found no takers. At the other end in a rare attack Kerr missed an opportunity to open the scoring when he failed to connect from a cross by Redpath. On thirteen minutes Glens took a deserved lead when a corner found the head of Martin which struck the crossbar and rebounded to the waiting McLeod-Kay to head home. The Glens were unlucky two minutes later when an effort from McLeod-Kay just slipped past the post, from another corner Martin just headed wide. On the half hour the away side won their first corner of the game which was cleared by the defence, three minutes later an effort from Wilson struck the post with the trialist goalkeeper nowhere. The away side were now having their best spell in the game and a header from Wilson narrowly missed the goal, the trialist keeper had to look sharp to save with his legs a shot from Brown. On forty two minutes Glens conceded a foul on the eighteen yard line from which the defence cleared for a corner, from the resultant kick Redpath headed home at the far post. an excellent first half was spoiled by conceding a soft goal late into the half.

2nd half
The away side made two changes at the start of the second half Veitch and Garvey replacing Kerr and Summers. The first chance of the second half fell to Duff but his header was saved by McGinley, both teams were finding it difficult pass the ball on the heavy pitch. A header from Veitch saved by trialist, a fine run from Martin was halted inside the eighteen yard box by a well timed tackle from Smith. Thirty seconds later McGinley made a fine save from the head of Lane. Another run from Martin had mcginley having to look sharp to save his effort. On the hour mark Denton replaced Lane, a minute later Russell replaced Martin. On sixty three minutes glens were awarded a penalty kick when McLeod-Kay was fouled inside the box. Denton was given the opportunity to regain the lead but McGinlay made a excellent save from the kick. Lamont then replaced Duff. From a free kick A. McDonald headed wide. An excellent cross field from C. Schiavone found his namesake only to see his effort miss the goal by inches. The away side won a succession of balls of which came to nothing. from another free kick a header from C. Schiavone saved by McGinley. Trialist keeper had to look sharp by tipping a shot from Shaw over the crossbar, McGinlay made another fine save from a effort from Russell. Now with the game looking like a draw in the final minute McLeod-Kay broke clear beating a couple of defenders on his way to goal only to see his effort hit the post then another saved by McGinley but the keeper could not hold the ball and it broke to Russell who fired it home to give The Glens a deserved victory.

Overall an excellent result from a very hard working team a 100% performance from all the team and they now can look forward to the long journey to Berwick ‪next saturday‬ to play Tweedmouth.

Dunipace 3-1 Glenrothes
Saturday 12th October
South Challenge Cup 3rd Round

For the third round of the South of Scotland challenge Cup the Glens travelled to Denny to face Dunipace.

First half
The home side started the game on the offensive and after three minutes’ smith made a fine save with his legs from an effort from McPherson. Craig then tried his luck from long range only to see his effort sail over the bar. the glens were finding it very hard to get a foot in the game with the home side playing some neat football without creating too many goalmouth chances, a long ball out of defence from S. McDonald was just too strong for the on rushing Russell. Then from another long ball Russell strayed offside, an effort from the danger man McPherson was saved by Smith. On twelve minutes the home side took the lead through an own goal from Miller. Two minutes later an excellent cross from Wright was met by the head of Craig which was inches wide, an effort from L. Schiavone was held by Kane. Then a fine run from Lane was spoiled by a poor final pass, The Glens conceded a free kick twenty yards from goal which the defence managed to scramble clear. On twenty-five minutes another fine run this time from Russell was again spoiled by a poor final pass. A minute later an effort from Craig came crashing off the crossbar. Wright was the next to try luck but his effort was too high. On thirty-four minutes’ The Glens equalised with one of the most bizarre goals you are likely to see, A kick out from Kane struck C. Schiavone and rebounded back to the keeper as he went to pick the ball up it struck his foot and trundled into the net. Russell then had a chance but McMahon cleared the danger. From a Glens corner the home side broke up the park and only a superb tackle from Pearson saved the day. An effort from Craig was punched clear by Smith. Another cross field ball from Kinnes was just too strong for L. Schiavone to reach, The same player had a fine run beating a couple of defenders and found Denton only to see his effort slip past the post. Although The Glens had come more into the game as the half wore on they can feel a little lucky that they were level at half time.

Second half
A minute into the second half the game was held up due to an injury to Wright but after intensive treatment he was able to continue. Glens had come out in the second half looking a more determined team, after creating a chance or two they lost a goal on fifty minutes a poor pass in the middle of the park the ball broke to Craig who ran down the wing and crossed for Dymock to score. A run from Byrne on his side a corner and in the process S. McDonald got injured and had to be replaced by Lamont. A free kick from Denton had the home defence working overtime to clear. A fine flowing move from the home side was halted by another fine tackle from Pearson, The Glens broke up the park but committed a stupid free kick. On the hour mark from a free kick Kane did well to pull the ball out of the air under pressure. Pearson again came to the rescue with another well timed tackle ten yards from danger. The home side were now conceding a few free kicks, from one McMahon got above everybody to clear. Duff then replaced Hynd, from yet another free kick Russell shot wide. This was now The Glens best spell in the game and from a long throw in C. Schiavone had an effort scrambled clear from three yards. A minute later a cross from Duff was cleared off the line, another cross from Duff found no takers. The Glens had to be beware of the quick breaks from the home side and in one McPherson shot over. An excellent run and shot from Kinnes was just inches wide with the keeper nowhere. A minute later C . Schiavone had an effort just slip past. In the final minute Brown was shown a straight red card for dissent and won a free kick on the eighteen yard line. this was the opportunity they were looking for to equalise and take the game to extra time but they blew it. instead of having a crack at goal they tried to pass the ball from one player to the other and were short. the home side stepped in and with everybody up the park for the free kick McPherson had the simplest of chances to score.

Overall a better second half performance but in the end the better team won, the three goals lost could all have been avoidable. Next week it is back to league business when Dalkeith visit Warout kick off 2-30pm.

Saturday 5th October
1st Division Conference B

Glens travelled to Gorebridge minus a few first team regulars i.e Martin, S. McDonald, A. McDonald, Smith and Duff.

First half
The Glens got off to the best start possible in the first minute a poor passback from Hogarth fell short of Easton and C. Schiavone capitalised on the mistake to fire home. The game was being played on a very heavy pitch with both teams finding it hard to adjust. On seven minutes The Glens conceded a foul twenty two yards from goal which was well defended and straight away broke up the park where the ball fell at the feet of Russell and from sixteen yards chipped the ball over the head Easton into the net. The Glens had settled down the better of the two teams and an effort from Lane had Easton scrambling across his goal to turn the ball round the post, from the corner kick Kinnes headed over. Then on fifteen minutes the home sides defence stood up well to a free kick from Denton. On twenty minutes the home side won three consecutive corner kicks without causing any danger. Easton had to look sharp to save a effort from C. Schiavone. An effort from Dyett was saved by The Glens trialist keeper. L. Schiavone found himself in acres of space on the left wing only to overhit his cross. A cross fom Lane was just missed at the far post by Russell. On a rare attack from the home side a effort from Anderson sailed over the crossbar. Next up a run and cross from Kinnes was pulled out of the air by Easton. a long ball out of defence had C. Schiavone straying offside. The home sides no2 (Devlin) found himself in a excellent position only to hit a poor cross, another run and cross from Kinnes saw his effort go over the bar. Devlin had a chance to get his side back into the game right on half time but headed wide of the target.

Second half
Straight from start of the half Glens won a free kick twenty five yards from goal from which the home defence cleared, a shot from C. Schiavone was spilled by Easton but no one was on hand to take a good opportunity, another effort from the same player slipped past the post. Trialist had to look sharp to turn a effort from Anderson round the post, another effort from C. Schiavone was pushed clear by Easton and fell at the feet of Lane to see his shot cleared off the line. The home side were slowly coming back into the game and created one or two chances that came close. Dyett had a excellent opportunity to open his sides scoring but missed a sitter from four yards, powrie then broke up the park and his cross come shot struck the top of the crossbar. L. Schiavone had to look sharp to look sharp to clear a dangerous situation. On sixty five minutes the home side got themselves back into the game when a corner kick was mis-judged by the trialist keeper and allowed Gribben to head home. From another corner The Glens defence did well to clear, the game was now getting stretched with both sides creating chances. a effert from Watt just missed the target. The Glens conceded another foul this time twenty yards from goal but again it was well defended. Then a shot from Dyett was cleared off the line by Kinnes. On seventy seven minutes Glens got the goal they were looking for with an excellent move that started on the half way line with some fine passing between two or three players and finished off with a excellent touch from Watt. Calderwood then replaced Powrie. Kinnes came to the rescue again by once again clearing a effort off the line. a cross come shot from Horsburgh struck the post. Another run and cross from C. Schiavone found no one on the end of it, this was to be his last touch and replaced by Hynd. The Glens finished the stronger and created two or three chances before the end of the game which came to nothing.

Overall another fine three points on a difficult pitch. Following on from the victory in mid-week it has been a good few days for the team. The Glens next game is away to Dunipace in the third round of the south challenge cup

Glenrothes 1-1 Preston Athletic
Saturday 28th Octoberb
1st Division Conference

Preston athletic were the visitors to Warout for todays East of Scotland league game. a win was vital for both teams as only a point seperated them at the top half of the league.

First half
The Glens started the game on the front foot and a good run and cross from Kinnes was cleared by the defence. On five minutes an effort from Bathgate was tipped over the crossbar by Smith. then from a corner kick A. McDonald had to look sharp to clear the danger. On the ten minute mark a header from Edmond was tipped on to the crossbar by Smith. A cross come shot from Martin was cleared by the defence. The Glens then conceded a foul twenty yards from goal which was struck against our defensive wall, a long range effort from Denton soared over the crossbar. The Glens conceded another free kick from which Smith punched clear. Glens were dealt a blow on twenty minutes when A. McDonald had to leave the field with a recurrence of the injury he received the week before he was replaced by Lane. After play resumed a header from Martin slipped past the post. The Glens were conceding a number of fouls in dangerous positions on the park and from another one Smith had to look sharp to save, then on thirty minutes a shocking tackle from Archibald on King had the glens player receiving lengthy treatment before being carried off and taken to hospital the tackle merited a red card but only a yellow was shown. Lamont was his replacement. Next a silly mistake in the Glens defence had Smith again having to look sharp to make a save. The away side were starting to cause one or two problems and Smith again the saviour. A lot of the tackling from the away side was very much on the border line, a free kick from Denton sailed over the bar, then a fine run from Lane won a corner kick which came to nothing. S. McDonald had to make a last ditch tackle inside the six yard box to save an all but certain goal. The talking point as the teams left the field for half time was the horrendous tackle from Archibald on King.

Second half
As the teams re-appeared the away side had decided to leave Archibald inside the dressing room. Glens won two corners in the first minute of the half with neither causing the defence any problems. A long range shot from Ndiweni went well wide of the goal, from a free kick Edmond headed over. The Glens had a strong claim for a goal when the ball seemed to have crossed the line but the official waved play on. Then another effort from Denton just slipped over the bar. The Glens were now the more aggresive side they went one behind. On the hour mark they conceded a corner kick from which Edmond rose above the defence to head home making it 1 nil. From a long throw in from Kinnes the tall keeper pulled the ball out of the air, a fine flowing move from the away side ended with a poor cross from Watson. A good run and cross from Kinnes won The Glens a corner, from the corner kick the ball landed at the feet of Martin for his effort to touch the foot of a defender and land in the net. The Glens were now going looking for the winner and a excellent move broke down with Lane straying offside, another effort from the same player missed the goal by inches. At the other end a superb tackle from Kinnes saved a The Glens from a very dangerous situation. Russell replaced L. Schiavone and The Glens won a free kick twenty two yards from goal from which Martin hammered the ball and it struck Pennycuick direct on the face and knocked him out, he tried to play on after some treatment but eventually had to come off to leave his team playing with ten men for the last seven minutes. From another long throw in the keeper fumbled the ball but there was no one on hand to take the advantage. The Glens were piling on the pressure looking for the winner and a header from C. Schiavone was finally saved by the keeper.

A draw was probably a fair result with both teams having their fair share of chances. The downside is The Glens will miss King for up to the next six to ten weeks after his visit to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a ruptured calf.

The Glens: Smith, Kinnes, Miller, S. McDonald, A. McDonald, Watt, L. Schiavone, Denton, Martin, C. Schiavone, King
Subs: Lane, Russell, Duff, Lamont, Hynd

Football Nation Qualifying Cup 2nd Round

The Glens travelled to play Premier league side Camelon in the second round of Football Nations cup. Glenrothes had Denton back after suspension and also captain Callum Kinnes returned from injury

First half
The Glens created an opening in the first minute when L. Schiavone had a shot just slip past the post, then on four minutes in their first attack the home side took the lead when a cross from Daramola was unfortunately turned into his own net by A. McDonald. From the re-start the ball found Kinnes inside the eighteen yard box only to see his effort narrowly slip past the post, on ten minutes Smith made a fine save from a header by Docherty, a shot from King hit a defender not long after, from a corner kick the ball fell at the feet of Martin only to shoot over the bar. On sixteen minutes Smith again made another fine save from McKenzie. Then a cross from the left was headed goalwards by Docherty but again Smith saved. On twenty minutes the home side increased their lead when a clearence from The Glens defence found Deans twenty yards from goal who hammered the ball into the net. Although two goals down The Glens were still creating chances and a effort from Denton was pushed round the post by Kinnear, from the corner kick King shot wide, from that goal kick the home side broke straight up the park and McDonald had to concede a corner. A fine twenty five yard effort from Watt scraped the outside of the post. Smith again was the saviour when he saved from Docherty. A minute later the same player had a effort cleared off the goal line. On thirty four minutes Glens conceded another goal when Docherty found himself in acres of space to allow him to fire past Smith. Glens to their credit were not giving up and Martin broke clear only to be halted by the official giving a very soft foul. The Glens were awarded a free kick on the eighteen line which was hit against the defensive wall. on forty one minutes glens got a life line to get back into the game when a twenty yard effort from L. Schiavone slipped under the body of Kinnear into the net. Another run and cross from Kinnes was cleared for a corner kick, from the resultant kick Martin headed over. Although two goals down at the interval The Glens were far from out of this game.

Second half
In the first minute of the second half Smith was the hero when he made an excellent save from McKenzie. a minute later a free kick from Kane struck the post. On forty eight minutes S. McDonald received a nasty face injury and had to be replaced by Miller. The Glens had a very strong case for a penalty kick when the ball struck the arm of a defender but the official turned a blind eye. Glens won a free kick twenty yards from goal which Martin forced the keeper to make a save. Next an effort from Watt was only inches away. The Glens were putting a lot of pressure on the home goal. On the hour mark a shot from Martin was cleared off the goal line. A. McDonald then received a leg injury and had to be replaced by Powrie. With all their territorial advantage the final push was eluding them but on sixty eight minutes they got the break they were looking for when a cross fron the left found King who toe poked the ball home, a effort from Martin then skimmed the top of the crossbar. On seventy five minutes a long throw in from L. Schiavone was touched on by C. Schiavone only to see it cleared off the line. Kinnear had to look sharp to tip a header from Martin over the bar. The Glens then made their final substitution Russell replacing Denton. A long kick from Smith had Russell bearing in on goal only to be beaten to the ball by Kinnear. Finally in injury time a defensive mistake allowed Cameron to run in on goal and shoot past Smith.

The Glens can feel themselves a little bit unlucky against the Premiership side. coming back from three goals down they showed a lot of character to get back into the game and with a little bit of luck the score might have been a little bit different.

Saturday 14th September
South Challenge Cup 2nd Round

For this 2nd round tie of the South Region Challenge cup The Glens opponents had a fair travel for the game travelling all the way from Lockerbie. The Glens line-up was short of two suspended players Denton and Lane and the injured Calderwood.

1st half
The Glens started very much on the front foot looking to once again take a early lead. a free kick from Lamont was clutched out of the air by the tall keeper. On seven minutes a cross from Lamont found Martin ten yards from goal only to shoot over the bar, then from the other side of the park a cross from Miller found King in a goal scoring position only for the official to blow for offside. An excellent through ball had King bearing in on goal and only for a superb tackle from Copeland that saved his team from going a goal down. It was just wave after wave attacks from The Glens but nothing to show for it. on twenty three minutes a shot from C. Schiavone was held by Kerr, a poor pass back from English had C. Schiavone sprinting to reach the loose ball but Kerr raced from his line to beat him to it. The Glens won a free kick just outside the penalty box which Martin hit against the defensive wall, another fine run and shot from Martin was saved by Kerr. On thirty four minutes a shot from King was cleared off the line. following a corner kick the away defence were lucky to escape as the ball bounced about the six yard box. On forty minutes after all the pressure The Glens eventually took the lead when another corner found the head of A. McDonald to finally open the scoring. Watt then tried his luck from long range but effort well over, Kerr came to the rescue when he made a fine save from C. Schiavone. Finally right on half time a header from Lamont wide of the goal. It was a very one sided half with only one goal to show for it and Smith not having one save to make.

2nd half
The Glens started the half where they had left the first one very much on the front foot and in the second minute Ker again had to look sharp to save from Miller. Glens then won two corners in succession in which both were cleared, another excellent cross from Lamont across the face of the goal bypassed everyone. On fifty two minutes Glens increased the lead through L. Schiavone with a fine goal. Martin then broke clear but Donagher made a last ditch tackle to save the day, a long range shot from King missed the goal. On the hour mark L. Schiavone struck the crossbar, it was still one way traffic with the away team showing very little in attack with a shot from Watt saved by Kerr. King then got a bad injury from a shocking tackle from Thorburn which most of the crowd thought merited a red card but only a yellow was shown he King was replaced by Russell. On sixty five minutes a free kick from Martin was saved by Kerr, a cross from Miller was met by the head of Martin but again Kerr came to the rescue then two minutes later the away side had there first real effort on goal when an effort from Graham just slipped past the post. Then a great Lamont corner kick was cleared off the line. On seventy five minutes Glens scored number three when a shot from Martin struck the crossbar and fell kindly for Russell to shoot home. Martin was then replaced by Duff. The Glens were creating chance after chance but just could not put the ball in the net. Lamont, L. Schiavone and Russell all had chances to increase the lead but were all off target.

Overall a satisfactory result in a very one sided game where the score could have been doubled in an otherwise a very sporting game the only sore point was the tackle on King.

Hawick RAU 2-5 Glenrothes
Saturday 7th September
1st Division Conference B

The Glens made a little bit of history when they travelled to the borders for their first ever competitive game against a team from that area, Hawick was their destination.
Due to injuries and suspension The Glens had to make a new signing (Craig Watt) from Alloa on loan to boost the squad.

First half
Well not for the first time this season The Glens started the game on the front foot, in the first minute a run and cross from Lane was saved by Fry. On three minutes Schiavone was brought down twenty-five yards from goal from which Martin fired home a beautiful free kick. That’s five out of the last six games that the first goal has been scored inside the first five minutes. The away side responded by winning two consecutive corner kicks which were cleared to safety, The Glens then conceded a free kick twenty-two yards from goal from which Strathdee shot wide. On fifteen minutes Martin was upended inside the penalty box, after brushing himself down he hammered the ball into the roof of the net from the penalty spot, a minute later it should have been his hat trick when he hit the post when it looked easier to score. The home side were trying to play long high balls at every opportunity and from one Strathdee broke clear but Smith stood his ground and saved the situation, an excellent through ball from Lane had Duff just straying offside. On twenty-five minutes’ Martin again came close to securing his hat trick when a header just missed the goal, Martin again had a header come close. Smith had to look sharp to save a header from Strathdee, Fleming then had a long-range effort slip past the post. the home side were now coming more into the game and Strathdee broke clear from what looked an offside position only to see his effort strike the post. a minute later another effort this time from Bolton also struck the post. the same player brought a fine save from Smith. Glens were having a poor spell and conceded a foul on the eighteen-yard line which was hit straight at Smith. Glens started to get back into the game and a thunder bolt effort from L. Schiavone was diverted for a corner, from a short corner the same player had an effort straight across the face of the goal which found no takers.

2nd half
Straight from the kick off the ball found Martin bearing in on goal but for some reason the official blew for a foul. Glens conceded two consecutive corner kicks which never troubled the defence. Glens then conceded a foul in a dangerous position but again Smith made a fine save. On fifty-three minutes’ Martin got his hat trick when a long ball had him race past Reilly and shoot into the net. Two minutes later a shot from C. Schiavone was held by Fry, Duff was the next to try his luck when he broke clear but he eventually overran the ball. On the hour mark Martin scored his fourth when again he broke clear of the defence to shoot home, a minute later he could have scored his fifth but this time Fry saved his effort. Then on sixty-three minutes the home side scored when a cross cum shot from Strathdee deceived Smith and landed in the net, a minute later Lane was shown a straight red card which looked a very poor decision by the official when a yellow card would have been sufficient. Next up an excellent run and cross from C. Schiavone found the feet of Watt but Fry saved his effort, Martin tried his luck from outside the eighteen-yard line but his effort soared over the bar this was to be his last contribution and as he left the park to be replaced by Russell he got a standing ovation from the travelling support. Smith made an excellent save from Swailes on eighty-two minutes, then another fine run and cross from C. Schiavone found Russell to fire past Fry for the fifth goal of the day for The Glens, next up a trialist then replaced Lamont just before Hawick clawed one back on the 87th minute. In the final minute Duff had a chance to add to the score but his effort was blocked by a defender.

In the end a satisfactory result with some good goals with Martin being man of the match. the only downside is once again finishing with ten men although this one was a harsh one. next fixture is the 2nd round of the south region challenge cup when Lochmaben (from Lockerbie) are the visitors to Warout kick off 2.30pm

Alex Jack Cup 2nd Round

The Glens travelled to Edinburgh for the second-round tie of the Alex jack cup. The Glens had two new faces on show (Jordan Lamont on loan from East Fife) Scott Powrie signed from Oakley United.

First Half
At kick off there was a very strong wind blowing down the park. The Glens won the toss and decided to try and use the advantage of the wind. The advantage counted inside ninety seconds when an in-swinging corner from the left-hand side was headed home by Calderwood, a minute later from a free kick the home defence was again under some pressure but somehow cleared the danger, another corner kick from the same side of the park saw Denton having a header cleared off the line. at the other end a cross from Meikle was clutched out of the air by Gear, inside thirty seconds two shots (C. Schiavone & Denton were cleared out of the six-yard box. Then a free kick from Lamont was cleared just before it crossed the line. The Glens were having plenty of possession and winning a fair number of corner kicks, from another one it took the home defence two attempts to clear. for all their pressure The Glens nearly went a goal down on twenty-eight minutes when a mix up in the defence could have been disastrous but gear managed to prevent a goal by pushing the ball around the post, another free kick from Lamont was cleared off the line. As the old saying goes if you don’t take your chances then it might come back to hurt you as an effort from Martin was saved by Haverty. The Glens then had a three-minute bad spell where they seemed to take their feet of the gas, firstly an effort from McKinlay just slipped past the post, thirty seconds later the home side equalised when a mistake from the defence allowed Swanson to shoot past Gear. things got worse two minutes later when another defensive error allowed Scott to score from close range. As the players left the park for half time The Glens must have been wondering with all the pressure how they were going in a goal down.

Second half
It would be a long second half for The Glens playing against a very strong wind. inside a minute they conceded a free kick which was cleared, the home side won two consecutive corner kicks neither causing any danger. Then there was an effort from Denton saved by Haverty, a long throw in from Schiavone caused a bit if panic in the home defence but eventually they cleared the danger, the home side nearly increased their lead when a shot from Swanson struck the post. From another long throw in the ball landed at the feet of Martin who blasted the ball over. Another mistake in The Glens defence was again nearly in but they managed to scramble the ball clear. The Glens then made their first substitution A. McDonald replacing Pearson. The Glens won a free kick twenty-two yards from which Haverty saved from Martin. Next up Gear had to look lively to save an effort from Scott. King then replaced Calderwood, another excellent cross from L. Schiavone was saved at the near post by United’s keeper, another cross from the same player was headed over his own bar by Swinney under pressure. Playing against the strong wind The Glens were creating a few good chances, a cross from Lamont was headed past his own post by Robertson. The home side won a free kick on the halfway line and with wind assisted it went out. A poor kick out from Gear allowed Hay the opportunity to head for goal only for him to over run the ball. The best move of the game ended with Linton having an effort cleared off the goal line. Powrie then replaced Miller. From a free kick in an excellent position The Glens wasted an opportunity to equalise. The home side should have gone further ahead when McKinlay found himself six yards from goal but blasted his shot over. Finally two minutes from time Denton was shown a straight red card.

Not taking there first half chances proved costly and for the second week on the trot some weak defending cost The Glens the game,

On twenty five minutes The Glens conceded a foul in a dangerous position which was saved by Gear then only a minute later the playmaker of the away side got himself into a goal scoring position but was pulled up for offside. on twenty seven minutes Glens opened the scoring when the away defence failed to clear the ball and it fell at the feet of L. Schiavone twenty five yards from goal from which he thundered home giving mutch no chance. five minutes later L. Schiavone had another effort cleared off the goal line. The game was picking up pace and on thirty five minutes the away side equalised when the defence got caught cold and allowed Graham to shoot home. The Glens were stunned by the goal and went right on the offensive and a effort from Kinnes was cleared off the line, a cross from the same player had the defence scrambling the ball for a corner kick. Kinnes then found himself the saviour at the other end when he cleared a shot from Robinson off the goal line.

Second half
The first chance of the second half fell to L. Schiavone but his effort was to high, on forty eight minutes Russell had an effort which was also to high. Glens had started the second half very much on the front foot and a header from C. Schiavone just missed the goal, the same player later had a effort saved at the near post by Mutch, once again Kinnes found himself back defending and clearing a dangerous attack from the away side. Finally on the hour mark The Glens took the lead when Martin and Kinnes split the defence wide open and a fine cross from the latter found King to score, at the other end a fine effort from Robinson just slipped past the post. Kinnes came close again but his effort was too wide. On sixty four minutes the away side equalised when a defensive clearance fell at the feet of Robinson who clipped the ball home. Once again The Glens had to try and lift there game and they created a few chances but none were profitable. On seventy five minutes they were shocked when they went behind when Essalhi was given acres of space to shoot home. The Glens were awarded a free kick twenty five yards from goal which was hit against the defensive wall. Duff then replaced the limping Kinnes. on eighty two minutes Glens finally equalised when a effort from C. Schiavone was deflected into the net.

The Glens were piling on the pressure looking for the winner and both Schiavones had efforts cleared away from danger. Martin was the next to try his luck with an effort from twenty five yards but Mutch saved the shot. In a rare break away in the last twenty minutes Gear had to look sharp to save at the feet of Colquhoun, a cross from Duff found no takers and for the final three minutes Harley replaced Martin. Despite all the late pressure The Glens could not find the killer ball.

Overall a poor result and two points dropped. on chances Glens should have been well in front but the downside must be the way they lost the three goals.

The Glens got off to a flyer and after missing a couple of chances opened the scoring on the fourth minute through Russell. Two minutes later Denton had an effort just slip over the crossbar. An excellent run from his own half of the park from Tonner earned his side a corner kick which was cleared by The Glens defence, Glens had the away side pinned into there own half and a fine run from King was halted when he ran into a defender, another run and cross from Russell was cleared by a desperate defence. an excellent through ball from S. McDonald had Stewart racing from his goal to save. Schiavone shot past the post with the kick. After the sending off The Glens were creating chance after chance with mussleburgh making save after save. Their keeper was keeping his team very much in the game but on thirty minutes he was beaten by a shot from C.Schiavone, he nearly scored again two minutes later but his effert was scrambled for a corner kick. Craigroystons keeper came to the rescue again when he tipped over an effort from Russell then he increased the lead with a rocket shot on thirty eight minute. From then till half time it was just one way traffic with Stewart pulling off another couple of fine saves.

Martin replaced Lane at the start of the second half, the away side created one of their few chances when Law tried his luck from twenty five yards which flew past the post, a header from C. Schiavone scraped the outside of the post. Next up the away side were dealt another blow when Hosey seemed to pull his hamstring and with already having used their only substitute they would have to finish the game with nine men. Martin saved an effort cleared off the line. The second half was turning into the same as the first with the away side camped into their own half. Their keeper was the lifeline between keeping the score respectable or his team getting a thrashing, a run and shot from L. Schiavone saw his effort come back of the post, a thirty five yard effort from Martin had Stewart making another fine save. on sixty eight minutes Russell scored his hat trick and The Glens number four. Denton then had a excellent chance but somehow the defence managed to clear the danger. Glens then made a double substitution Harley & Shaw replacing Russell & C. Tuesday 13 August
1st Division Conference B

The Glens travelled to edinburgh for this midweek fixture and made two changes from the victory on Saturday L. Schiavone & Russell replacing Banks & Calderwood.

First half
The game started at a rate of knots and only a last minute tackle from Miller stopped the home side taking a early lead. On five minutes The Glens won a free kick 20yds from goal from which C. Schiavone just missed the goal, from a corner kick The Glens defence got themselves into a bit of a tangle but eventually cleared the danger. At twenty five minutes Tynecastle danger man Smith made room for himself inside the penalty box only to shoot wide, from a corner kick a header from Martin brought a save from Jackson. The Glens were conceding a number of free kicks and from another one Smith had to tip the ball over the crossbar. The forty minute mark came a controversial decision in the game when the official deemed that a last man tackle from Longdale on C. Schiavone was a straight red card on consulting with his assisstant he changed his decision and awarded offside against The Glens player which did not go down well with the Glens support.

Second half
The Glens started the second half looking very sharp and created a couple of good chances which came to nothing. after their fine start to the second half they went behind on the fifty fifth minute when a cross from the right was headed home by Smith. Kinnes and L. Schiavone seemed to be struggling with niggling injuries and were replaced by Lane & Shaw. Some very contentious decisions seemed to go the way of the home side, Glens keeper Smith again had to look sharp to save from Tynecastle danger man Smith. The Glens again conceded another foul twenty two yards from goal from which they defended well, a cross from Denton eluded everybody and was cleared from danger.

On 66mins Glens went two down when Smith from what seemed a offside position shot past Smith. Tynecastles Hopkinson missed a chance to put his team further ahead but again the Glens keeper Smith came to the rescue, Banks replaced C. Schiavone. At this point the Glens were finding it very difficult to get themselves into the game and when they did decisions semed to go against them. On the 85th minute another decision went against them when the official awarded a very soft penalty. The kick was taken by Smith trying for his hat-trick but the other Smith made a excellent double save not only saving the penalty but when the ball broke to hendry he made another fine save. In the final minutes a excellent chance fell to Martin only to scuff his shot in front of goal.

Overall not the best display in the world but again a lot of 50/50 decisions went against the team and maybe could have secured a different scoreline.

The Glens were playing some nice flowing football and got their reward on 10 minutes when Calderwood was pulled down in the penalty box from which Martin fired home.

The long throw ins from Kinnes were causing the defence a problem or two and from one Martin just missed the goal with his head, on twenty minutes a shot from King scraped the top of the crossbar then five minutes later Aitken had a chance to get his team back into the game only to see his effort stike the post, a fine cross from Calderwood was scrambled clear for a corner. The home side had another chance through Allan but Smith made a fine save pushing the ball round the post. the home side were slowly coming more into the game without creating a lot of goalmouth chances. Glens conceded a free kick 20 yards from goal which Smith dealt with. Finally right on half time King made a great takle to stop Templmam having a crack at goal.

Second Half
No changes from either team at the start of the second half but the home side had changed their system and went more offensive, their tactics were to fire as many high balls into the penalty box looking for the towering Templeman, from one header Smith had to look sharp to save. The from a free kick Martin did well to get in front of Templeman to head round the post. Next up an excellent run and shot from Schiavone was saved by Henderson.
The official gave a foul to the home side which to everybody in the ground should have been the other way and from the resultant free kick Lawrie blasted over. The game was now stop and start with both teams conceding a number of fouls. Schiavone and Kinnes had attempts at goal both saved by Henderson. The Glens then made a double substitution giving both Lane and Russell their debuts replacing Denton and Banks. With the final five minutes to go the home side were pressing high up the park to try and get back into the game.
